Music Playlist Challenge: "Everybody Talks" - Neon Trees

Image
This may be my favorite song on the list. I had so much fun prepping this outfit and doing the shoot, you can kind of tell with the end results huh? I very much was inspired by "Everybody Talks" by Neon Trees . My inspiration came from both the cover art and the lyrics of the song. The song title "Everybody Talks" has a theme of relationship that lacks an emotional behalf due to gossip. And when I thought of the implications of gossip in this song I couldn't help think of "The Music Man" when all the women of the town make little cheeping songs during a song, so I work my bird shirt since the birds represent a form of gossip. I also have a very subtle tribute to "Neon" Trees with neon nails in the picture, if you look closely they are present. I had the impression to go for hipster pop sensual kind of vibe as well, so I definitely wanted red lips and red accents in my outfit and curly hair, like the model on their cover. Here a...

Music Playlist Challenge: "Heartbeat" - The Fray

Image
This time I did "Heartbeat" by The Fray . I noticed in their music video they had a lot of browns, reds, and mixed colors. I'm not entirely happy with the result I got from this outfit, I was hoping to put on a funky sweater with it that would go with the theme but alas I didn't have exactly what I was looking for. I noticed it was a very chill Cali- Hipster kind of vibe with the chicks in the video so I followed suite. Another one I had a hard time with, I don't feel on the top of my game with this challenge this time but there's still time to turn it around. Oxfords - Maurices Necklace, Buffalo Exchange Leather Jacket, Gifted Buffalo Exchange Skirt, Ann Taylor Loft Blouse, Anthropologie Tights, I don't remember

Music Playlist Challenge: "Skyscraper" - Demi Lovato

Image
This outfit was for "Skyscraper" by Demi Lovato . Got to be honest, got nothing out of the song or music video. So what did I do to get over this stumpage? I decided to take the title more literally. Well, sort of. I got inspired by skyscrapers at sunsets, or skylines. So I thought of it abstractly, I put black's and grays on the bottom half of myself for the skyscraper concept and oranges and blues for a sunset idea, and then Skyscrapers are (as far as I know) almost always for business so I work a business-y look with kind of an architecture feel in mind: Top, Buffalo Exchange (Ann Taylor Loft originally?) Skirt, Goodwill Belt, NY&C Shoes, Vans Tights, Kohls Necklace, Icing What's left? 1.      Are You Gonna Kiss Me Or Not- Thompson Square 2.      Forever in Blue Jeans- Neil Diamond 3.      Heartbeat- The Fray 4.      Everybody Talks- Neon Trees 5.      You Make Me Feel S...

Music Challenge: "Rolling in the Deep" by Adele

Image
This time I chose to do "Rolling in the Deep" by Adele . If Pinterest hasn't taught me anything, it's that Adele has a look all of her own. After Googling up her fashion taste, I found that she was a big fan of three things: lacy black dresses with the occasional colored overcoat and sparkly earrings, big luscious hair, and a soft cat-eyeliner with gold/brown eyeshadow. So that's what I did....sort of. My hair can't stay that voluptuous for that long and maybe I need a liquid eyeliner to make my cat-eye stay and to leave an impact. I have to admit I felt really uncomfortable putting on so much black but I got a lot of compliments that day (live in a small-college town full of Conservatives in the middle of winter, go figure). Skirt, Buffalo Exchange Shirt, NY &C Belt, Goodwill Boots, Last Chance Tights, Kohls Coat, Burlington Coat Factory Earrings, Icing Camisole, Downeast Basics What's left? 1.      Are Y...

Music Playlist Challenge: "The Cave" by Mumford & Sons

Image
I'm starting off the music challenge with "The Cave." I thought Mumford and Sons were Irish due to their very Irish-jig sound in their tunes. So I chose green. Even after I googled them and found out they were British, oh well.  In their music video,  the band was wearing off-white and black suits with swept-back hair riding motor cycles. So I was inspired by their color coordination and something a bit more airy, and came up with my wispy off-white skirt and black accessories. When I listen to the song I imagine this outfit just flowing in the wind on a yellow Vespa and some shades, being free. I played with green eyeliner. Skirt, Banana Republic $12 Blouse, Anthropologie, $10 Belt, Goodwill $3 Heels, Last Chance $20 Earrings, Icing $2 What's left? 1.      Are You Gonna Kiss Me Or Not- Thompson Square 2.      Forever in Blue Jeans- Neil Diamond 3.      Heartbeat- The F...

Third Annual Music Playlist Challenge

Image
Here we go again! My sister I Get Dressed started this two years ago where we had faced a inspiration dry spell so we challenged each other to push ourselves in a different way: create outfits based off of songs. But here's the twist: we chose each others' "playlist." Let me tell you something: My sister may be related and presumably have some things in common, music isn't one of them. Maybe a few artists we agree on, but typically when these assignments come along I know on my end I have to go look up most of the artists because I would have never given that song a second glance had I look on my own. So the challenge also makes me expand my taste in music a bit more and put my twist on the song. It's produced successful results before, see for yourself: Year 1:    Year 2: This year my set of songs have been assigned as the following: 1.      Are You Gonna Kiss Me Or Not- Thompson Square 2.      Forever in Blue Jeans- Neil...

Primary Colors - sort of

The more I play with my camera and start this photography class the more I freak about the pictures that aren't focused where I want them to focus. It's very interesting, you can probably figure out which one of these is not like the other if you look closely. It's not a big deal but it is. Skirt and Shirt - Goodwill Belt - NY&C Necklace - Buffalo Exchange Tights - Kohls Shoes - Last Chance Coat - Burlington Coat Factory
