Music Playlist Challenge pt 2: "Deer in the Headlights" by Owl City

Image
Next up is Owl City's "Deer in the Headlights," I chose this one originally because I was madly in love last summer with his new album, "All Things Bright and Beautiful." I knew I wanted to do one of the songs on it, so I chose the one that was the most mainstream and probably more enjoyable for my sister and an audience. I chose an Owl City song because he had a very techno, romantic type of music that has a very unique, creative style that seems to be calling in desperation to have some outfits done after it. So this outfit was a fit: I wanted a romantic theme with neon colors like the scene in the music video where he's traveling through some space-void on the road. Cool story: this dress is vintage, 50s, it was going to be for my friend's wedding, and it didn't fit at all: too big in the chest (what else is new?) and crazy in the middle, and it was much longer too. Well, my mom made magic with this old school dress and produced something...

Music Playlist Challenge pt. 2: "Every Teardrop is a Waterfall" - Coldplay

Image
Here is Coldplay's "Every Teardrop is a Waterfall," I originally chose this one for my sister because of the music video and it's wide array of colors and energy. So I played on the graffiti art on the city by throwing on my shirt that looks like the song and then put some neutral backdrop colors to go with it. I was very happy with the result. Music Playlist Challenge Pt.2: "What you Waiting For" - Gwen Stefani

Image
I decided to kick this one off with Gwen Stefani's "What You Waiting For" because I had a very specific outfit come to mind. I had a blouse with a ton of clocks on it, so how could I not use it when the song is mostly about time and taking chances now. I got inspired by the Alice in Wonderland theme in the music video as well, but I drew the inspiration from not only the quirky cutesy clothes of Alice, but also from Gwen's Queen of Hearts outfit with the tones of red. Funny thing, I felt kind of uncomfortable throwing this on. I blame living in a conservative small college town for this one, because I knew as I threw it on I would be completely normal back home. But I felt like I was wearing tons of trendy, bold things and a little over-the-top to be honest, but looking at the pictures now, they turned out great. I'm glad I went with my intuition on this one. Blouse, Buffalo Exchange Skirt, Buffalo Exchange Heels, Famous Footwear Tights,...

Missed it yet? 2012 Annual Music Challenge...Reversed!

Well I couldn't stay away from it, so I picked up the playlist I gave my sister over at I Get Dressed did for the music playlist, and guess what? I'm going to do it now. I am way excited because this is my music and I get a chance to put my playlist to the test. Plus this gives you a chance to see how different two sisters' taste in fashion can be. Third Annual Music Playlist Challenge Recap

Image
Third times a charm, eh? Well, here it is, the end of the third annual music playlist challenge. This one had its good times and its bad times but I am happy with the end result: it pushed me in ways I wouldn't have gone before and it reminded me of the objective with my fashion blog. I used the following songs that were given by my sister I Get Dressed to inspire my outfits: 1.       Are You Gonna Kiss Me Or Not- Thompson Square 2.       Forever in Blue Jeans- Neil Diamond 3.      Heartbeat- The Fray 4.      E verybody Talks- Neon Trees 5.      You Make Me Feel So Young- Frank Sinatra 6.       The Cave- Mumford and Sons 7.       Smells Like Teen Spirit- Nirvana 8.      N ot Over You- Gavin DeGraw 9.      Rolling in the Deep - Adele 10.     Moonlight Sonata- Beethoven 11.     Pumped Up Kicks- Foster the People 12. ...

Music Playlist Challenge: "Moonlight Sonata" - Beethoven

Image
I had to finish the music playlist challenge with a bang, and being a major fan of classical music I chose to finish with Beethoven's "Moonlight Sonata," which I would argue it is one of the most romantic songs ever written (ha, Beethoven ushered in the Romantic era of music if I believe). Anyway, my goal was to go something romantic and something that painted imagery of the night sky since the Moonlight part. So I chose a palette of Grays, blues, blacks, and silver to represent the various colors a night sky can carry and things included in a night scene: textured leaf tights to show the silhouette of trees under the moon at night, a herringbone pencil skirt that looks like stars in the night sky, a black velvetty scarf for the darkest part of the night, and a blue for the various shades of blue from dusk to dawn. This has been one of my most favorite outfits I have produced this year because I believe it fulfills the goal of my style blog and desire in taste: to c...

Music Playlist Challenge: "Not Over You" - Gavin DeGraw

Image
For Gavin DeGraw's "Not Over You" I just drew inspiration from the music video. The chick in it wears a floral dress and I had a floral dress, they wear glasses often, and I think I saw some sneakers in the midst of it. So voila, outfit. All the pieces I'm wearing are at least three years old, it was nice to pull out a bunch of old but reliable clothes. Dress - Ann Taylor Loft, $16 Shoes, Payless Bangle, Black Market Minerals Glasses, uh... What's left???? ......Just one more. :)

Music Playlist Challenge: "Smells Like Teen Spirit" - Nirvana

Image
With "Smells Like Teen Spirit" by Nirvana , it was only begging me to go for the grunge rebel teenager look, especially after watching the music video it confirmed this. So I pulled out my baggy white tee and some of my punk-rock pieces and threw them together for this spiel. If this photoshoot taught me anything it was: Even though I have left teenager-dom for only a year know I have completely forgotten how to act and dress like one. My teenage angst face looks more like I am ready to puke up something in front of the camera. Because my "edgy" face just looks like I'm going to puke, maybe I shouldn't consider modeling as a career. T-Shirt, Pearl earrings, and Leather Jacket- Forever 21 Jeans - American Rag via Macy's Shoes - Keds via Last Chance ($3!!!) Socks, Road Runner Sports (but did you really need to know that?) The rest: 1.      Are You Gonna Kiss Me Or Not- Thompson Square 2.      Forever in Blue Jeans- Neil D...
