Well, something about me and the eighties doesn't quite click together all the time. Except I discovered how much more comfortable my skinny jeans are versus my boot cut jeans. But one thing is for sure. I cannot deny how awesome Michael Jackson's music is. So when I gave this song to my sister, I thought that I would eventually want to do a Michael Jackson song. So I got pretty picky with the details: 1. I sort of copied the same color palette as my sister, because she was very much right about how he wears a lot of guess what? Black, white, and red. 2. I know the specific song was Billie Jean, but I couldn't resist but do a subtle tribute to my personal favorite "The Way You Make Me Feel" where MJ sings the line "Hey pretty baby with the high heels on, you give me fever like I never ever known". Not to mention those killer red heels that the girl in the "Thriller" music video wore? I rest my case. :) 3. Eighties trends: skin...

Ok. I loved, loved, loved, loved , LOVED this outfit. Particularly the shoes. I got these knock-offs this weekend and I haven't been able to take them off very easily. I'm starting to think that I should get some more flared skirts in neutral colors so I can do another variation of this outfit, but the skirts will have to wait until I go home for summer vacation.
Escape to Nature

Well, it was , in my opinion, perfect weather outside today. So while I was couped up in my apartment trying to read and concentrate, I realized it was futile when nature called. So I wrapped up my book, my journal...and yes, shocker, my camera, to go take complete advantage of it. I laid out on the grass against a tree and watched the river, then I moved to this cute little bench: I very much enjoyed my Thoreau moment. Either way you put it it was very nice to just get away and enjoy mother nature.
Grandpa Jacket

Just a disclaimer: this is NOT my grandpa's jacket. I just recall looking through my parents really cool wedding that was in the 70s and my Grandpa was sporting a wonderfully brown plaid suit, and thinking this jacket reminded me of it and my grandpa. I got this jacket at Goodwill as a piece of a suit which included the vest you see me wear every other picture pretty much.

Just so you know, I love love love love love that scarf I am wearing in that picture. Why? Because one day my mom took me to her closet, pulled out this cool Asian box, and opened to reveal all the scarfs she wore when she went to college...in the 70s. Sooo the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. Anywho, I think the 70s might be my favorite decade of vintage.

DISCLAIMER: Due to the fact that my past blog is not working enough to be legible, I am reposting this entry upon request. Enjoy :) : Guess what! I have completed the Music Playlist Challenge. As a reminder the challenge was to create an outfit that was inspired by a song, which were twelve songs that my sister/fellow blogger I Get Dressed gave me, so it was a stretch from the usual music I gave myself. So in recap here is the twelve songs and twelve outfits I did: Lightning Crashes by Live Evacuate the Dancefloor by Cascada Uprising by Muse Cowboy Casanova by Carrie Underwood Umbrella by Rihanna Soul Sister by Train Tidal Wave- Owl City Never Saw Blue Like that - Shawn Colvin Video Killed the Radio Star by The Buggles I'm Just a Girl - No Doubt I Dreamed a Dream - Susan Boyle/Les Miserables Consider Me Gone - Reba I'm not sure what to do with myself fashion-ly speaking. I am very much tempted to do the twelve songs I assigned ...
All For Presentation

Can you tell what my favorite shirt is right now? I don't see why not, it is my favorite color and it is a necktie blouse. Great selection mother (and sister?), thanks for the gift. This outfit was a combination of a presentation for communications, listening to Hairsprays "Welcome to the Sixties", and just the motivation to get dressed up. I got lots of positive feedback, generally from the male population, so I would call it a success.
Style Archetypes and Where In the World I Fit

Well, after I had found a niche for editing my wardrobe, I realised at I had edited so much, I was incredibly boring. I rebelled against my peers in a way because I just wanted to go super super classic. But I knew inside that I was not a super super classic type of person. So this year became a year of self-defining, not only by how I presented myself but also what can I person I wanted to be. Well, I got very creative. I used fashion as a social experiment, but I wouldn't say I didn't settle on something yet. And then one day, somewhere somehow someway, I decided what my style "archetype" is, and to be honest it has alter egos, so here they are: Indie Rocker Vintage feminine Dark Romantic Quirky Prep/Classic Tell me what you think, it seems pretty accurate to me.
On Acquiring My Style

I didn't always like clothes or fashion or getting dressed. When I was little, I was the epitome of a Tomboy. I only played with boys. I played legos, video games, and outdoorsy games with only boys. I gagged at the sight of barbie after age four. I went out every single day wearing a baggy usually not-pink shirt, shorts, and tennis shoes. Hated dresses, skirts, getting my hair all done, and doing anything that took longer than five to ten minutes to get ready. Every morning my mom mastered the art of making a very chic braided ponytail which I wore every single day until I was 12. Me when I was 8. When I turned twelve, the only thing that changed was that I tied my own hair back, or occasionally let it down. Come pre-teens until about age 15 I was to put it straight simple, tacky, and awkward. I didn't really care for fashion still, and didn't get a bonafide styling haircut until fourteen. But even then it was not what was hip at the time. To put it simply: I wa...
Inverted Playlist Challenge: "Fireflies" - Owl City

Well, anytime I hear Owl City I can't help but think lots of color and quirky selection of articles of clothing. Well, I decided to play with all the cool colors because the song is about seeing fireflies, and well, you only see them at night, so I played with the concept a wide array of blues and purples at the end of a sunset. A summer night kind of concept.
Inverted Playlist Challenge: "Day Tripper" - The Beatles

And with that note let's get started, haha. :) I woke up this morning and just had a spontaneous urge to listen to The Beatles . Beatles Beatles Beatles everything. Well, I felt like I had to do a Beatles-ey outfit to fit the occasion. The seventies came more in mind for me, primarily Across the Universe and their depiction of The Beatles music in that period of time. Day Tripper was probably before their hippie days, but I went with their later interpretation.
